About the Bad Melee Archive

Founded in 2015, Bad Melee was once the premier website for shitposts and humor pieces related to the Super Smash Bros. Melee community.

The original Bad Melee site is no longer live, although it can still be viewed on the Internet Archive. The purpose of this website is to provide more seamless access to archival Bad Melee articles to modern SSBM fans interested in reminiscing — or learning — about a simpler, funnier time.

Bad Melee was founded by Griffin, also known as Verbal, with Anthony “Slime” Bruno taking the reins as the site’s webmaster and editor after Verbal exited the scene. I’m Alexander Lee, a former Bad Melee contributor and current game journalist also known as “Quality Steve” in the Smash scene. With Slime’s blessing, I’ve used content and image assets from the original Bad Melee website to build this archive. This website includes some original images and gifs that are no longer visible on the Internet Archive’s backup of Bad Melee.

The articles on this website reflect an earlier and sometimes edgier era of the internet and the Smash community. The website is specifically intended to preserve original written content published by the Bad Melee team. Bad Melee also included some blog posts aggregating highlights copied from Smashboards and Twitch chat. For the most part, those are not included in this archive.
